About The Association of Legal Administrators

The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) was formed in 1971 to provide support to professionals involved in the management of law firms, corporate legal departments and government legal agencies. ALA provides educational opportunities and services to more than 10,000 members representing more than 6,900 employers in 30 countries. ALA is structured into six regions equal to 100 chapters in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and New Zealand. ALA's Elevate Award

The Elevate ALA Award celebrates up to three individuals or organizations for exceptional achievements in professional development, networking, visibility, and inclusion. To qualify, candidates must show notable advancements in:

  • Creating impactful professional development content.
  • Strengthening relationships among legal management professionals and with business partners.
  • Boosting ALA's presence and influence in the legal community.
  • Promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA).

ALA’s President’s Award of Excellence

Each year, ALA recognizes exemplary chapters for their efforts in effective management. Chapters must track their demonstrated efforts in the following categories: effective chapter management; communications; professional development; recruitment and retention; and miscellaneous chapter activities. The Sacramento Valley Chapter has consistently been recognized by National for our successful commitment to effectively carry out ALA's mission and goals.

SVALA Bylaws Information

The Bylaws of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators can be found here: SVALA Bylaws 08-14-2020. This code, developed by ALA, governs SVALA's conduct, systems, and processes.

ALA’s Code of Professional Responsibility

The legal profession and business must adhere to high ethical standards to maintain public trust. The ALA Code of Professional Ethics was adopted in 1991. In 2010, the ALA adopted Code of Professional Responsibility, which encompasses the spirit of the previous code and prformance objectiveds and reflects legal administrators' professional responsibilities in today's profession.

The Sacramento Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators is a separate legal entity from the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). ALA licenses the use of its name, mark, logos and other protected properties to chapters that are in good standing. ALA disclaims all liability or responsibility whatsoever for the actions, representations and liabilities of the Sacramento Chapter, specifically including those of any nature whatsoever arising from or out of the content of other features related to the Sacramento Chapter Web site. In no event shall ALA be deemed the guarantor of the Sacramento Chapter.
